^.^ It's been a while, and my grammar is probably failing, but if you ever need someone to bounce vocab off of, you've got a resource right here on your flist. I used to quiz my co-worker who was taking Italian at another college back when I was studying.
It is easier than Japanese, particularly if you have another romance language like French or Spanish to draw from. There are a lot of words that are similar to English, and the grammatical structure is MUCH less confusing than most romance languages. There are some fiddly bits with posessive pronouns, but with a bit of practise you'll be fine. Get your articles sorted, and you'll be well on your way.
